UNY Elementary School Teacher Education Student Contributes to International Educational Practice at Sekolah Indonesia Bangkok

By admin_fip | 11:48 AM WIB, Mon September 14, 2026

Rani Isnaeni, a student from the Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Study Program, Faculty of Education (FIP), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), participated in the International Educational Practice at Sekolah Indonesia Bangkok (SIB), Thailand, from August 3 to 24, 2026. This initiative provided an opportunity for the student to apply pedagogical competencies while gaining teaching experience within an international educational environment.

Rani was the sole UNY PGSD student selected for the program. She was appointed as the Team Leader for the International Educational Practice, leading a team of five students. Throughout the program, Rani conducted teaching practice for Pancasila Education and Indonesian Language for 1st and 2nd-grade elementary students, as well as English for 3rd and 5th-grade students.

Learning activities were designed to be active and engaging through various methods, such as discussions, educational games, practice exercises, and group work. These activities encouraged active student participation while helping the teaching student refine her skills in designing lessons tailored to the characteristics and needs of the learners.

The International Educational Practice at SIB also supported the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, which emphasizes inclusive, equitable, quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

This contribution was realized through the direct involvement of the student in teaching and mentoring. Lessons were aimed not only at subject mastery but also at fostering students' critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and self-confidence.

Beyond classroom instruction, Rani assisted in training the SIB Flag Raising Troop (Paskibra) in preparation for the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Bangkok troop during the 81st Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony and the Indonesian Diplomatic Reception with the Kingdom of Thailand.

The Paskibra training formed an integral part of the educational experience, contributing to students' character building through discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and national pride.

Involvement in this international program enabled Rani to bridge academic theory with real-world school practice. Interacting with students, mentor teachers, and various stakeholders at SIB enhanced her pedagogical capabilities, communication skills, teamwork, and adaptability in a different educational context.

This experience serves as valuable preparation for PGSD students to grasp the roles and responsibilities of future elementary school educators. Through this program, students gain professional experience while directly contributing to the education of Indonesian children living abroad.

The International Educational Practice at Sekolah Indonesia Bangkok demonstrates that cross-border learning experiences offer a platform for university students to hone their competencies while actively contributing to quality education.
