The atmosphere inside the FIKK Sports Hall at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) was electric on Tuesday (August 18, 2026). Among the twelve faculties packing the arena, the Faculty of Education (FIP) stood out the most, dominating the opening ceremony of the 2026 UNY Campus Life Introduction for New Students (PKKMB).
This year, FIP UNY solidified its top ranking as the faculty with the highest number of new students across the entire university. A total of 2,682 new FIP students filled the venue, representing a significant portion of the 18,850 new students enrolled at UNY for the 2026/2027 academic year.
An impressive sight unfolded from the early morning as the FIP contingent headed toward the main assembly point. Notably, the procession of thousands of FIP students was led directly from the very front by the Vice Dean for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs at FIP UNY, Dr. Shely Cathrin, M.Phil.
"This massive number reflects the public's immense trust in FIP UNY. We take pride not only in the sheer volume but are also ready to mold these 2,682 'Young Ganeshas' into outstanding individuals of strong character, prepared to serve as pillars of future education," asserted Dr. Shely Cathrin while accompanying the FIP contingent.
As scheduled, the first two days (August 18–19) focused on the university-wide level at the UNY FIKK Sports Hall. Subsequently, on August 20–21, thousands of new FIP students were set to carry the event's energy and excitement to their own faculty grounds, allowing them to gain a closer understanding of FIP’s academic and student life.
This impressive debut by the FIP contingent reflects a renewed spirit across the campus. As the largest contingent, FIP UNY is poised not only to enliven the PKKMB event but also to produce outstanding work and achievements throughout their future academic journey.
